The end of June marked the end of my internship with the Felidae Conservation Fund. These past four months have been incredibly fulfilling. The opportunity given to me by Zara, Katie, and Alys has been the most enriching experience of my life. I feel fortunate to have worked in a positive atmosphere with supportive, friendly, and resourceful peers.

In my time here, I have learned many new things that will continue to contribute to my future. Working with camera traps has been a great experience because they are a non-invasive way to study wildlife. I was able to build on my previous knowledge of camera traps by working with them in a professional setting for the first time at Felidae.

Being able to explore the Bay Area while working in the field was fantastic. Marin County became my playground, where I managed Felidae’s camera traps at Point Reyes National Seashore and Samuel P. Taylor State Park. These picturesque hikes in nature, where I felt completely content, allowed me to rejuvenate after eight long years of my academic journey. During these hikes, I had the opportunity to observe and discover various plant and animal species. I was even lucky enough to spot a bobcat!

This internship provided me with insight into the world of conservation. I was truly impressed by the dedication of the volunteers I met and trained during my time at Felidae. The organization wouldn't exist without the genuine support of these individuals who are truly concerned about the future of wildlife. It gives me hope and pleasure to see such passion.

I am positive that this isn't a final goodbye—I will be back in the Bay Area.
